I believe in the signs.
The signs that have been hounding me all day- to return to my past to clear this unsettled state of mind.
It started with this Coldplay At Glastonbury 2002 hour-long set that they were showing on Channel V as part of this marathon of live performance gigs all day. 2002. i was in frickin sec 1 man. That was just after they had finished realeasing singles and videos off the album Parachutes and just as they released A Rush Of Blood To The Head. I remember that Hashir or Izzah burnt a copy of the CD for me and yeah, it's hard not to fall in love with an album with tracks such as In My Place, The Scientist and CLOCKS- come on!!
I tivo-ed the gig. I need to sit down and watch it properly..savour every moment (though i've watched the entire thing on youtube already :P but its different when you watch it in dodgy quality in the tiny video and on a proper big screen)
I had to go for tuition you see. So I'd to pick out what to wear, and I just gravitated towards my black Linkin Park Meteora t-shirt (that i wore to Womad in 04 btw. what kinda idiot wears a rock band tshirt to Womad? i could've worn something ethnic/loose/flowy right! i obviously had no sartorial sense back then, but don't get me wrong, i love this tshirt ah. i wore it to the LP gig at the padang)
so tuition was all well and good, but when I got back, one of my bros switched to Channel V and the Linkin Park Live in Texas gig was on (!!!) what're the odds right? i've watched it a tonne of times already lah, but every time i watch it, there's something new about it plus it's always great when you know every lyric to every song and you can sing along (or harmonize. HI CHAR this is directed at you :D )
Char and I were talking about this the other time..the progression of bands that we liked as kids to whom we like now. For me it was from BSB to Jamiroquai to Linkin Park at the early stages of music that i discovered on my own- and then to an absolute explosion of various artists, but thats another story. yeah, i grew up with Linkin Park and they were such a major part of my life through the hellish period that was secondary school. I read into every lyric of chester's or mike's and felt their pain and angst- wah i was damn emo and negative last time sial. But come on, nothing against LP; i was just immature and didn't know how to deal with teenage turbulence and nu-metal was my solace (it sounds SO corny when i say it that way :\ )
ok where was I. yeah so i was minding my own biznaz watching the gig when viv pointed out that i was wearing an LP shirt, which is something he would normally not even bother articulating cos 1) it's trivial and 2) it takes too much effort on his part. it's like when i jock my bro: "Eh viv, you're wearing a united jersey while watching a united match on tv. how lame is that. only i do shit like that you idiot" when in actual fact he just happened to be wearing it cos its one of the many replica jerseys he owns that have been relegated to "Home Clothes" status. my reaction was 1)wahhh vivek bothered to notice :P and 2) oh ya! i AM wearing an LP shirt and watching an LP gig on tv- how trippy is that?! Meteora shirt summore (they were playing songs off their first 3 albums- Hybrid Theory, Meteora and Reanimation) so yet another sign.
towards the end of the set, they started playing Numb and woahh the lyrics just hit a raw nerve man
I'm tired of being what you want me to be,
Feeling so faithless lost under the surface
I don't know what you are expecting of me
Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)
Every step that I take is another mistake to you
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)
I've become so numb
I can't feel you there
Become so tired so much more aware,
I'm becoming this all I want to do
Is be more like me and be less like you
Can't you see that you're smothering me
Holding too tightly afraid to lose control
Cause everything that you thought I would be
Has fallen apart right in front of you
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)
Every step that I take is another mistake to you
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)
And every second I waste is more than I can take
I've become so numb I can't feel you there
Become so tired so much more aware
I'm becoming this all I want to do
Is be more like me and be less like you
And I know
I may end up failing too
But I know
You were just like me with someone disappointed in you
and it would only be appropriate to accompany the lyrics with an emo picture

Long day it was eh?- having breakfast, cycling at ECP,having lunch at kenny rogers, running into Diana, battling a torrential downpour on the way to kallang leisure centre, watching SATC, having sushi for dinner and then walking past the national stadium on an empty street (which is where this was taken) to get to our next destination.

and why not, a semi-emo(emo cos it elicits a reaction)/alt rock/post punk-core/some other subgenre of rock music/why bother with labels anyway? song by Billy Talent.
it's called Surrender and i think this song is so good, it has taken over the high play count on my itunes, just ahead of the new Oasis tracks. just the chorus. *touches palm to heart*

Gagaga what are the odds, I was gonna quote LP lyrics too ("Faint", which like "Numb" is easy to relate to, can see many identifying with the lyrics. Did the dude i/c of lyrics really experience things like that or are they just really good, empathetic counsellors?)
one of the many replica jerseys he owns that have been relegated to "Home Clothes" status.
Don't ever change Viv. He's kinda like my sis except much cooler..
Oh no can't view the pic but torrential downpour I rmbr clearly ;( Rustjuice.
*touches palm to heart* and I feel ya brotha, like Kenan feels Kel.
Uhm.
:D
yes i just saw your post!
"i can't faint the way i did before"
one more for the misheard lyrics collection eh ;)
chester and mike write all the lyrics (right char?)and yeah,it's all first-hand experiences that end up as the lyrics. chester had a pretty rough childhood which contributed to "Crawling" off the first album for instance. also drug abuse, failed relationships, what have you..
viv is the same douche who doesn't let me play guitar hero btw.
you can have him.
weren't we talking about kenan the other day? and i think i mentioned that he was the fat one :P :P i meant PHAT arhh
