arbeit macht frei

I took this at the Dachau Concentration camp (which su and ven are heading to) near Munich.

Its main inhabitants were political prisoners,as well as Jews of course.

that's natural lighting from gaping holes in the ceilings. so just imagine, during winter, snow would fall through the ceiling as well. The horrific conditions the POW's had to put up with, i can't even bring myself to put it in words. I DID put it in words, at a presentation for the school (A.S.S) but the fuckers were so inattentive, ignorant and indifferent about the history and me trying my best to relate the experience in an accessible way, that i've become disenchanted with the notion of ever trying that again. well not now at least.

the undermining of human dignity and the simultaneous breaking of the human spirit is all that echoed in my head while treading warily through the prisoner's barracks. I say treading warily becuase i felt like my presence was defiling the sanctity of the place (honest) and because i didn't want to be disrespectful by making any sudden movements. Basically i just wanted to be invisible. I was embracing the fact that there're way bigger things than me and that i am merely a drop in the pool.

It was a sobering experience.
