"I'm God's lonely man"

this place has been quiet for quite a while eh?
pulled in all directions, i am. (i was going for yodaspeak if you didn't notice)

it has come to a point where i now look like quasi-frickin-modo cos my right eye's all swollen. (ok lah i'm exaggerating) there's a stye in my eye. why, you ask? "because people under stress tend to get less sleep and therefore rub their eyes more often, thus transporting the bacteria into the eye". thank you wiki. and i just HAD to leave school early on the day that the rest of the class got to enjoy TWELVE TUBS of ben and jerry's during Moral Ed. but i've been promised that i'll be made up to..me and Itchy. we shall hold her to it!

i haven't been sent home/left school early in quite a number of years already so that was something i'd to readjust to. got picked up--> lunch at grandma's-->dropped by Gardens where Ash picked up a movie or 2 (lucky fella his exams are over)--> half watched Taxi Driver, half slept cos when there's something in yer bleedin eye, all you wanna do is close it so that you don't have to put yourself through the trauma of feeling every last blink.

De Niro and Scorsese. a 1976 movie (ashwin has fantastic taste, i'm so pwoud of him *gushes*) New Yawk, for one. the grime, the filth, the accents, the sidewalks, the billboards, the yellow checkered taxis , the mafioso, the hookers..the works. iconic new york and an iconic film. very violent, unforgiving and ultimately, rough around the edges. its a gem, this one.

i guess i've always harboured an affinity for all things mafia. be it sicilian cuisine, felt fedoras or cigar smoke(nyehehe) maybe that's why i like this stunner of a picture so much :)

jay z does it in his vids too *HOVA*

ok anyways coming back to the mafia and new york and dick tracy style, dingy office building private investigators who wear trenchcoats..i've always been fascinated by the genre, if thats the term i should use. Ask Jac! Ask her how many bloody mafia stories i wrote for my essays in secondary school :P and ninja turtles. come on man- sewers of New York! all that crime and violence..and pizza. you see how it all comes full circle? even sesame street had P.I.-style skits.. i clearly rememeber a talking muppet hamburger and one of the main characters in a trenchcoat. and according to my dad i sat through the first hour of The Godfather when they showed it on the telly back in the day (maybe that's why i almost used Corleone when naming my sec 4 mafia story characters :P i eventually used Molina. that sounds mafia,no? mind you, this was waaaay before Spiderman 2 and Doc Ock came out ;) ) you see! its been propogated since young! yay for dodgy italians.

an excerpt from the movie: at this point can i just say that Robert De Niro was highly attractive as young man. he didnt look as surly and weatherbeaten as he does now..but that same sureness and conviction in his eyes that draws you in, was in Taxi Driver as it is now

BETSY
You know what you remind of?

TRAVIS
What?

BETSY
That song by Kris Kristofferson, where it's said
"Like a pusher, partly truth, partly fiction,a walking contradiction".(smiles)

TRAVIS
I'm no pusher, Betsy. Honest. I never have pushed.

BETSY
I didn't mean that, Travis. Just the part about the contradiction.
TRAVIS
(more at ease)Oh. Who was that again?
BETSY
The singer?

TRAVIS
Yeah. Yes. I don't follow music too much.

BETSY
(slowly) Kris Kristofferson.

Travis looks at Betsy intently and they exchange smiles.
