ok i'm leaving for Egypt today. there i said it.my love affair with egypt began in '98, at the age of 9 and as the proud owner of a Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness book about Ancient Egypt. I got it cos i'd won a book voucher for pwning the Primary 3 level in tamil (of ALL subjetcs TAMIL -_-..how times have changed...) it was the prettiest off the shelf of DK books in the now defunct MPH bookstore (the one near the asian civilisations museum)..
and at this point of time, i'd like to point out how much a PITY it is that that outlet of MPH had to close down..WTF MAN! that was my favouritest bookstore in S'pore, with its 3 levels of books and the carpeted floors and the cafe with the delighful brownies and the awesome awesome kids section. i even remember celebrating new years eve there once! HELL, after it closed down, i stopped going to bookstores and buying books..i'm serious! the books i've acquired in the years since it closed down (and killed my love for books) have either been given to me by a loving uncle (he buys them on his travels) or stuff i've won..like book prizes(is that what they're called?) and this year, the only book i managed to read other than both my lit texts was Freakonomics, and even that was borrowed :( but yesterday! SALVATION! went to the National Lib..the central one in Bugis, and i got mahself a couple of Heller's works and lonely planet guidebooks and L4YER CAK3 the book, which was later made into a film starring Danny "Bond" Craig..its about drugs sex and violence..basically the British crime underworld. the film was *rawk on* so i'm hoping the book's even better. that's usually the case innit?
AGH where was I..egypt! yes..it was almost an obssession. Dr.Zahi Hawass was my hero and i watched Mummies Alive! reilgiously and i even went to the ACM's 'Eternal Egypt: Treasure from the British Museum' exhibtion and got a cert with my name in hieroglyphics on it made..this was back in Feb 99. That was followed by the Omnimax movie at the science centre, "Mysteries of Egypt" and in 2003, watched the national geographic channel with baited breath as "Pyramids Live:Secret Chambers revealed" was on, and a robot was sent up a shaft into the Queen's chamber of the Great pyramid(cheop's one). they only found another door though..-_-".
ok anyways i used to HEART egypt this much and it was childhood dream to go there and thank Horus for the opportunity. dear blog, i promise you pictures and memories..
turrah..i'm off!
