Denial. Its not just a river in Egypt. Its a frickin ocean.
i do not deny that the past weeks since school officially closed has been so much of a mad rush, that i've forgotten what a proper holiday feels like. what DOES it feel like folks?
i do not deny that sometimes i ask myself, 'self, wtf are you thinking taking on so many commitments when your grades are as promising as jim and pam (they're from The Office you plebs!), hooking up. (jim+pam= jam. netta, i love you too much to do anything more than make special mention of it here. and as you say, 'dont hate!!')
i do not deny that at the same time, i got this warm feeling inside, like i'd just downed a vial of Felix Felicis and everything turned out all rosy over this same past week..after all the commitments had been made.
for one, i made it to the model UN thinger as i like to call it.i personally thought i was unconvincing and flustered at the interview..but hey, at least i was more comfortable talking about them genocide and nuclear prolieferation issues than mah own doggone pw project, which i'm supposedly supposed to be extremely well-versed with. but i digress... its gonna be held at lycee francais, (that's lychee frankaice sucka!) next year, a day after my birthday, for 3 days. oh what PERFECT timing *strained grin* EIGTHEENTH BIRTHDAY OK! cut me some slack! i'm allowed to feel this way :(
for two, i got to REPREZENT (i caps-ed it cos you gotta say it gangsta style, with the 'tude and and the pose) my school at the very posh and swanky new parliament house. but more about that later
for three, cricket carnival is 3 weeks away. yaaaaaay finally! :D
for four, golf nationals are 7 months away...now this is where the effects of the felix felicis wears off and the gravity of the situation and circumstances bring me crashing back down to earth rather uncermoniously.
and this is where the big man in the sky probably says: I'll bring us through this. As always. I'll carry you - kicking and screaming - and in the end you'll thank me. well actually, that was brad pitt's character in Fight Club who said that..but you know, same difference.
so lets get on with it then
my brothers refused to help me take a photo well at least thats what i thought, until i found this shot in the cam later on. couldnt bring the cam along though. i was sulking cos they refused to take a shot laaaaah. i dunno about you but the first time you don the school blazer is a pretty iconic moment cos you have the responsiblity of reprezentin the hood..just like in Yo Momma. MTV is so brilliant they managed to make a programme out of dissing. the last time i wore a blazer it was when i represented A.S.S in a school in Heidelberg while i had an enrapturing conversation with the French teacher who figured that my german was too pseudo to start the conversation in anything other than English(and i thank him for that)plus i got pretzel crumblings all over the blazer :P
anyways had to walk from some raffles city drop off point (where i was dropped off duh) to the st andrews cathedral exit of the city hall mrt station in my full blazer get up. white skirt, white shirt, ratty tie(i have yet to wash it. are ties supposed to be washed anyways? its not like i spill stuff on it *shrug*), stockings (necessary detail) and court shoes (why 're they called that?) i swear i couldn't help from grinning to myself as i crossed the road in my 2.5 inch heels (i checked the box). lemme lay it down like this: one of the busiest streets in town + everyone else had already crossed the road so i was the lone person crossing the street with 13 seconds to go...i felt all dressed up and cocky..like robbie williams, Mr.cocky bastard himself. the wonders of a blazer..sigh..
met the boys then we(i mean me) hobbled off to the new parliament building. the shoes were KILLA! for one they were a size too small..bata size 7 is small! WTF! and the leather cut into my feet so bad, there was scarring. *faints* but then again, thank you steffi for the shoes!
security checks and me don't do well together..i always forget something metallic. yesterday it was a pen that was in the inner blazer pocket..a PEN. talk about stringent yo!
met the other school's student guests and were ushered off to the gallery above the "strangers gallery". it was called that, i kid you not. anyways the booth was soundproof (i wonder why) and the seats were plush and a tad bit too comfortable. later on we had to plug in earphones to hear the president's speech. anyways, when you looked down from our vantage point, all we saw was mui importante dignitaries and state representitives. DUDE...like, WOAH. it was surreal man
all the waiting around we had to do was well worth it. though i did hear a conversation that went like this-
A: i'm borrrred *sian face*
B: patience my friend..patience is a virtue.
A: but so is punctuality
hoho.
what was even more surreal happened during the reception aka a gorgeous gorgeous garden party. the garden was turfed with bermuda grass (can you say golf course?) and you could have stood anywhere and completely surrounding you would've been a minister or an ambassador or a supreme court judge or WAHEY the prime minister himself! or his dad.
shan't name drop too much but lets just say we conversed with so many prominent ministers, i was SHOCKED that there were no pictures of ministers and student guests in ANY of today's dailies. then more legit also, what i've just rattled on about :P
the crest that was so recognisable that minsters we spoke to didn't have to ask us what school we were from. cheh wah!
one of me new mates with possibly THE coolest name(for a singaporean). wait for it...................................Heidi Ho! :D :D :D
anyways, all the conversation were very enlightening. some ministers were more genial than others..but they were all lovely people. the big guns AND the rest of the lot. like one other student commented, last night was more of a national education lesson than what we've ever had in our curriculum. i felt very fortunate and blessed to be in the presence of such great men..especially a certain minister whom in response to a rather ignorant but valid question quoted Oscar Wilde in saying:
These days man knows the price of everything, but the value of nothing.
:) how true.
and how could i NOT mention the food! catered from Elsie kitchen (which i used to see on the way from the bus stop to Mrs Chee's place..eh jeanette, this one's wendy's tuition place! )
buffet spread: 6 types of currys, 6 types of dimsum, kueh tutu, kebabs, hokkien me, a HAVOC dessert spread with clotted cream concotions, fruit tarts and brownies of every sort, CHOCOLATE FONDUE!, usual continental fare, satay, alcohol (and good alcohol at that. pity i couldn't have any :P) the whole works PLUS waiters and the SAF military band serenading us. talk about POSH!
it was incrediblé.
and moving on to issues of the auditory sort, robbie williams sounds like george michael on his latest single "lovelight"..which is actually a cover! aha, didja know that? but Robbie with a falsetto is always worth sitting up and listening to. and the songs doesn't disappoint! unlike that sorry excuse for white boy rap', Rudebox. NASTY song. *shudder*
'who do you think your foolin, makin me feel so sure''...i think i like it so much cos it sounds like jamiroquai wrote it..and toned down the funk or something. haha :D
edit: i finally got rid of the kasabian player ok! hrmph. so now i have in place ,in a very obvious spot, this ickle player thingamajig that plays Lovelight when you clickety click..so turn up your speakers mateys! (i would've put up Jay Z's 'show me what you got' but unfortunately the song isn't up yet..GAH)
