paheli (!!!!!!!!)

oh my gosh i just found out that they're showing PAHELI on arts central tonight!! OMG!!!!!! i love this movie! i got it on vcd way back in december..well actually my mum got it for me.she also got me swades for my birthday among other things. so yes thanks amma. this is the movie that India's sending in as its entry for the Best Foreign Language film at the Oscars :D and the best bit is that SHAHRUKH KHAN's in it!!!!!! WOOHOOOOOO!

and as you can see in the pic,he has a moustache in this one, which is SO not him but i guess you get used to it after a while.and rani mukherjee! she's absolutely gorgeous in all her resplendent saris and jewellery designed by tanishq. the jewellery is seriously opulent and the stuff royalty probably wore in rajasthan but the pieces are just so timeless and beyond -belief beautiful.go tothis site to see the entire collection in all its glory..

other than the fab jewellery and clothes(i believe i have a pic in my dec 2005 archives of my nephew ganeshram wearing a very rajasthani top at my cousin's wedding which looked reminescent of the kinda clothes SRK wears in paheli), the story is rather traditional and not a showy blockbuster. and shahrukh actually proves his versatility in this one..he's not the usual hero/filial son/goofball/overacting languishing lover we've all fallen in love with. he plays both a loser buisnessman dude(kishan lal) who's SUCH a pushover and a rather handsome ghost who's the spitting image of kishan ..oooh that makes matters interesting. ok i shan't spoil the story but its the stuff folklore's made up of. oh btw paheli means Riddle. so yes there's the element of confusion and conundrum especially when you have ghosts impregnating women. woops guess i just gave it way :P

there's a stellar supporting cast too so this movie is top notch.and the MUSIC. oh its just lovely. http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/hindi/musicreview/7579.html

the review at this link shares my sentiments about the soundtrack. it said it all better than i ever could have.

as one reviewer put it, "Sometimes fantasy can provide an ideal excuse to tell the truth about the quirky quality of human existence. Paheli proves it"

so PLEASE watch it if you're not gonna be at a chinese new year dinner or summat tonight. it'll restore your faith in bollywood movies if you're one of em cynics. Posted by Picasa

Anjali, it is wonderful that movies can connect continents. I think,Paheli is known now in America, Europe and of course Asia and in Araby.
What scene do you prefer? I love that scene in the beginning at that mystik lake. Wow! And a lot of scenes also!
