- there were tonnes and tonnes of andersonians already there..they were absolutely EVERYWHERE! even my og leader was like, wahlao, summore anderson people ah? nah beh! haha..he was having his momentary lapse into beng-ness..one of many. even some of the og leaders themselves were ex-andersonians. and on a tour of the school saw SO many of my ex-seniors that i was getting tired of waving to say hi
- NY is just opposite my house.and i've been there loads of times before, esp when i was a kid,cos the field was open to the public and all the residents in the area used to patronise the courts and the field .until they stopped opening it up to the public like 2 years ago i think..ya. but other than that..i;m pretty familiar with the place.not the inner working and all, just the exterior. it was just very familiar lah. so no trouble settling in.
so yes. it took me approximately 2 min and 15 seconds to get from my doorstep to the track of the college :P which is so lovely. but i shan't carry on about that anymore. there were ALL Sorts of people there. from Victorian dudes to serangoon garden sec gangstas.in my og there were mostly cedarians(one of whom was my p6 classmate) and andersonians(one who was in the same class as me all thru sec school and one whom i barely knew). there were also 1 person each from deyi, victoria, dunman, chung cheng, yishun town(this VERY cute guy called darcy), whitley..cant rmb the rest and 2 from st nicks. so it was a good mix.
the amazing thing was that this other girl from anderson, jasmin, who was in my OG hadn't known me and i hadnt known her when we were in anderson. our classes were next to each other and we knew that each other existed but we didnt actually know each other's names and stuff.but desperate times call for desperate measures. today we were talking like good ole friends, having recess together and all that.three quarters of the J1's from anderson i knew only fleetingly but today we were behaving like we'd known each other for years. absolutely amazing what orientation will do to you. but i think i got along just as well with all the new people too lah. they were very nice, started off rather cordially but eventually we were pretty comfortable with each other.
so there were about 30+ OG groups and since there are four houses,it worked like this. OG1 was in griffin, OG2 in dragon, OG3 in phoenix, OG4 in pegasus and back to griffin or OG5. i was in Griffin house which is yellow..which is a disgusting colour after having worn that colour as my pe shirt for 4 stinkin years. but i realised that many other schools too had yellow pe shirts too. so you know, i guess it was alright.
my OG leaders were very..interesting.it helped loads that my house was reputed as the most enuthusiastic of the lot(so we were cheering half the bloody time..and really loudly at that). the cheermaster was one of my og leaders.his name is choy and he is absolutely SEOW(mad).he makes up for his lack of height with his thunderous voice ,spirit and sense of humor. Man, that fella can cheer.he's like a bloody energizer bunny. a beng energizer bunny who can speak lovely english if he wants to.he'll put a smile on your face. the other og leaders were girls except for this one guy nelson who is such a mr nice guy.
then we had to go listen to the principal talk.he is incredibly drony. as in,his talking sounds like droning.i mean i tried my best to listen to him and i think i caught most of what he was saying but i ended fiddling with my phone, twirling it around and stuff. apparently he too is new to the school.and he was doing an excellent job of sounding desperate in wanting us to stay on in NY after the 2 months of PAE ended.but other than that he seriously needs help with his articulation. you know, its like that joni mitchell song big yellow taxi(thanks G :D) which said "you don't know what you got till its gone".i feel that way about mrs tan. i really miss her SO much. she would do wonders for any school that she was in charge of. i am SO gonna thank her the next time i see her back at anderson on the day we get our results. it seems the new principal is being a right younknowwhat and trying her best to wipe away all traces of mrs tan from the school :( no more casual friday,be yourself day, campfire and april games!! WTF!!!!!!!!! damn pitiful man.
oh yes, when all the teachers walked into the hall in this lil procession thingy they played the Star Wars theme! RIGHT ON! :D
so the orientation theme for this year is Project X..which is a throwback to the X men.(last year it was Zion, like, from the matrix.yes popular culture junkies.how un-original. but what the hell..) the tshirts are pretty cool. oh ya,speaking about tshirts, the orientation pack is DEAL for 20 bucks.we got TWO orientation tshirts, one black and one white with the project x logo on it, 1 silicon bracelet in our house colour(think lance armstrong), a poncho, the school collar pin and all this was in a sling bag.you know the kind that most kids carry to school today?yeah.very cool right?(oh God i'm talking like them). but there're these silly skits which are just..unnecessary really. but i guess they gotta do it to reemphasise the theme.
during faction time we had icebreakers which were actually fun and actually helped me remember the names of my og members. but most of them kept simplifying my name to angeline and i had to explain that it was uhn-juh-li.but they still kept calling me angeline anyways. aah i give up. whatever they're comfortable with. unless they hear someone from AND calling me anjax and then i guess they'll start calling me that. oh well *shrugs* other than that we learnt cheers(most of which are pretty similar to the stuff i learnt in Guides) and the school song and all that.
then we had games. they were pretty cool games actually. but my butt is seriously sore cos we played this one game where we had to move our butts along this row of chairs..as in RACE on butt to meet another person coming from the other end(doing exactly the same thing) and then play scissors paper stone to see who would have to get up off their seat and join the line again. argh its hard to explain in words. then there was line soccer (aka human fussball), some ping pong thing, some team building stuff.
after all the fun and games had our subject combination talk which lasted for TWO WHOLE HOURS. i have no idea how i lasted through it man. but KI..is damn interesting. it sounds really exciting and i think i'm cut out for it but í think i'll stick to GP lah. all my sec school life wanted to do GP and was so excited about it and my teachers kept saying that i'll be good at it, so yeah..better stick to the safe stuff for the moment.other than that, i really think i'll be able to get my lit, geog and chem(at H2) and math(at H1) combi, even though its not a typical combination.
so yes..another long day tomorrow.until 530 i think.we'll be doing wet games and stuff and they warned us that we would be drenched. so yes better run along and go pack my stuff.
but before i go..NY is not as cheena as i thought it'd be. but its only the first day..so i dunno for sure yet. but i DID only see like 2 other indians. and there was one miserable indian OGL who didnt seem to be doing much anyways. but i didnt feel particularly discriminated against or wtv so that was really nice. the OG leaders are all very accomodating ppl and they have excellent school spirit. so yes..check back in a couple of days an we'll see how it goes. till then, turrah!
P.S: if it doesn't exist, the least we can do its pretend that it does ;)
