its crazy cos she's probably one of the biggest ff fans i know and i still rmb her reaction when iz and i gave her the "you could have it so much better" album on her brithday. it was priceless i tell you. for a whole month i'd been telling her that i'd burn the cd for her "dont waste money lah!" and everytime she brought it up i'd say it was almost done. and this was in the thick of the o level period. so i could make up excuses like, "sorry dey was studying lah.cannot use the computer already". i'd never lied so much and so hard in my life during that period of time. but they were all white lies, and for someone else's good..so i hope i still have a place in heaven. :D
her birthday,16 nov, was the day we had THREE papers: geog elect paper 2, and both physics papers.damn that was a hellish day. we decided that we'd give her the cd AFTER all the papers had ended.if not she would've been thinking about it all through her papers and wouldn't be able to concentrate. see what nice friends we are! she almost bloody jumped on me and she had tears in her eyes(i think..i hope) cos i knew she REALLY wanted the album. it just felt really rewarding to do something nice for someone who's had your back for four years.
so a couple of days later we were in the library and listening to the album. i like the fact that the lyrics were handwritten on boring line paper in the sleeve.very funky.i esp liked the last bit of the lyrics of the song "Walk away":
The stab of stiletto
On a silent night
Stalin smiles Hitler laughs
Churchill claps Mao Tse Tung on the back
it makes no sense but it makes sense...somehow.thats some original shit right there. well done ff. another song called darts of pleasure with a bit of german influence thrown in also tickled my fancy.
Ich heiße Super Fantastisch
Ich trinke Schampus mit Lachsfisch
Ich heiße Super Fantastisch. (x3)
it basically translates to "i am called super fantastic. i drink Schampus(famous german wine) with salmon fish". yes. bollocks. i know. the rest of the song doesnt make much sense either, when you think logically. but its fantastic stuff, the riffs and all. nick mccarthy, the lead guitarist, is apparently german. don''t see anything german about mccarthy but what the hell. oh wait, he was born in blackpool but raised in bavaria.ok that works out.
ff won the mercury prize in 2004 which is a really big deal(for me at least, cos talvin singh won it in 99 and MIA was a nominee this year). The Mercury Music Prize is a music award given annually for the best british or irish album of the previous 12 months. so there're loads of nominees but just one winner. and one award. so it doesnt make for much of an awards presentation.haha.
ok i'll go blog about something else.
