thought i'd take a break from posting NZ pics cos honestly there're mor important things t take care of
So here goes. its been a while since i actually wrote something ya know, a full on post. this blogging thing really helps keep my english up to standard especially cos not writing so much for Sang torch anymore(just a teensy bit of editing here and there to keep the wheels well'oiled) and also cos we havent done a proper english compo since the start of the year. can you believe that i;m having trouble writing journal entries for english! Shell shocker for me cos i used to be like totally sharp and could come up with sensible stuff to put in my entries just like that but i think cos of the company i keep and the inhibitance in being able to express myself in cheemology (cos i've to stop half the time to explain what i just said..how irksome) my english has gone to the dogs. ok not so much as yet. but blogging is a way of redeeming myself innit. i need to re-read DVC yaar and Harry Potter. i love the writing styles in both books. in the case of HP, we have british wit charm and dry humor and in DVC we have all american thriller writing (which is what i did best in sec 2..wahaha) with tonnes of opportunity to show off general knowledge.
so anyways, wanna start of with 12th Night
Twelfth Night is our lit text for this year. Love the book especially after watching trevor nunn's adaptation(with my favourite Gandhi ben kingsley as the adorable feste) in the movie form which boasts an all star cast. ok lah, more all star for a brit audience than for an "international" audience like us. but whatever. in the cast there was Imelda Staunton(most recently of Vera drake fame), toby stephens( aka Gustav Graves from Die another day/maggie smith's son), imogen stubs(who loks alot like emma thompson), helena bonham carter(duh you should know her. more infamously for her role as that monkey woman in love with mark wahlberg in planet of that apes) and richard e. grant (doesnt that name sound awfully familiar??he was in gosford park)
the movie's a lot different from the book but ya know its nice to veer of track once in awhile especially when you're doing an adpatation. but what i meant to talk about here was the play innit.
ok so it was more like a class outing to the DBS arts centre, home of the singapore repertory theatre to watch Stage Club's presentation of the book Twelfth Night or "what you will". wore the black japanese kimono-ish top that i bought for the "sri lankan new years party" that i went for last year(bad memories) and my fave pair of choc brown Guess cords. added a bit of ethnicism(as usaul) with mum's dangly chandelier earrings and handcrafted silver cuff
note: the only reason why i'm writing all this down is incase i forget this ensemble when i'm trying to think of what to wear at the next appropriate event.
i'm no lionel seah, but i dont think brazil jerseys and billabong visors paired with flip flops(typical arcade wear) are appropriate for stage productions at robertson quay. khairul and james looked like fine young gentlemen. and kenny was a mista cool for the night. especially loved the cubic zirconia stud in his left ear. uber cool. farhana was fit for an IIFA premiere, nora was smokin in a tube baby doll dress paired with capris and converses and jac was pretty in pink. as soon as i got there with the gang(including mrs goh), saw jac and co who arrived earlier and were waiting in line outside. jac immediately said "theres a surprise waiting for you inside" and the first thing or should i say, person who came to mind was Keagan Kang, for some strange reason. even after 10 mins of guessing still no luck, so let it drop. entered the place and ended up having an upstairs circle seat. it was time for jac to reveal the mystery person..muahahaha
she asked me to look down to the seats on the lower level and specifically pointed to a girl in a turquoise top. and THen it hit me. JIA WEI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i almost screamed out kiddo!!!! but i ended up freakin out in my seat with this real ridiculous smile plastered on my face while i called her on my handphone and said hi. we exchanged frenzied waves(so excited mah) and promised to meet up during th interval. but before i go to that bit lemme speak a bit about the characters
orsino: the guy who played him looked Eurasian (aka geragok) and he had this sleepy look which was kinda sexy but iwas more impressed with the fact that he knew the lines so well. they flew out of his mouth like water.. haha what i meant to say was that he was very fluent in his the delivery of his lines, like he'd been doin it for years. it was amazing. and almosy everyone in the cast was just as good. "if music be the food of love, play on.." honestly prefered toby stephens as the languishing sufferer of unrequited love in the movie version, but at least this guy did a passable job. you have to give him credit for doing Live theatre that well lah
maria: played a by matronly middle-aged english lady who reminded me alot of someone i'd asscociate with british royaltyexcept that in this case, she played the maid.haha..ironic seh.loved her hair..so blonde, so beautiful, so soft looking. she looked like the kindly and pretty version of maragaret thatcher with a bit of charlies angels glam thrown in.
to be contd....
