(weekend) update

with Seth Meyers.

day 1 of my supposed school day started with getting up at 6.15. Pre firstdayofschool jitters. I was more worried about GETTING to school than actually being in school, beat that :P This new country, new type of educational experience (ie uni life)..all that doesnt bother me, strangely. I think I've either become numb/accepting to alot of newness at once. Either way, its a step forward, so I ain't complaining.

Got to the train station by 7.40-ish..got in line to buy my train ticket. Realised that the stupid idiot sold me a ticket for a train that was coming in ONE MINUTE, so had to put my card through to the backintheday in S'pore transitlink ticket turnstyle, grab it and run up the stairs- in my dress -__- which was rather short. Thanks ah! I'd never taken an intersuburb train before, so this was my first time for a lot of things. The train was double decker lah! But was too worried about missing my stop (even though its the stop everyone gets off at) to try and get a seat on either of the decks. The ride was generally painless..except the view was a carbon copy of what we saw out the windows on our train trips from Maidenhead to Paddington, Su and Ven! Aust = England No.2, from first impressions. (they have UKTV here..which shows all em british programmes :D Gok Wan, Jamie, The Little Britain fellers, French & Saunders, Derren Brown, Eastenders, Parki, Fawlty Towers, Doctor Who and Torchwood...YAY). Got off at Central and found my way to the express bus that takes all uni students to campus, which is about 20 mins away. Phew. So much more convenient than taking the regualr buses, which DON'T run on time. Bus lanes? Puh-lease. As long as you have 3 ppl in your vehicle you can use the bus lane, so you get stuck in traffic ANYWAYS.

Got to school by 8.30 even though class was only supposed to start at 9. Sat at one of the lovely courtyards and skribbled some anjaxive wunderkind down, such as

  • School is right next to NIDA! (national inst. of dramatic art) of which Toni Collette, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving (elrond..agent smith..), Baz Luhrmann (LOVEE) and Mel Gibson were all alumni of. Way cool.
  • My first day of school music on Gaspard was all KYLIE :D In keeping with the aussie spirit :P It could've been a multitude of people..anyone from Silverchair to INXS to AC/DC, but nooo, i chose Miss Minogue.
  • I wonder if i can get away with wearing flip flops to school everyday..everyone seems to be doing it anyways! Thing is, I'm not the flip flops kind. I love my sneakers too much. ("Dust off your sneakers, time to save the universe!"

So, went into the lecture and met my other coursemates, a good 20 of them. Which was odd already cos the lecture was supposed to be full. Waited around for a good 20 mins, when one of the girls who went to check with the Arts dept. came in and told us that there werent any classes all week unless you get specific emails from lecturers. AARGH. Ok lah, so I wasn't the only douche who didn't know that. Instead went to the library and bookshop and got my texts..NERD ALERT. No lah, i'm just SO ready for new stuff after a year of relearning old things, yknow what i mean? I have to channel my excitement about school somewhere :P

Went back to the city cos I needed to take the train back from there. Decided to have a bit of a walk around, since I didn't have much else to do all day. It was kinda uncomfortable, cos i was lugging all my notes PLUS i wasn't wearing comfortable flip flops, like i should've been. But it was my little sydney adventure nonetheless. Didn't have free hands to take photos. I've said it before and I'll say it again..Sydney city reminds me of San Francisco in the following ways:

  1. The massive Chinese population
  2. The hilly, up and down streets
  3. The parallel streets..if you miss a turning, you gotta make a whole round and come back. No U-turning. I'm defo not even gonna attempt driving in the city, no sirree.
  4. The windiness. HAHHAHA. I've see too many girls knickers whenever they're waiting at pedestrian crossings and a sudden gust of wind sends their skirts up. OOPS.

The shopping is kinda blah actually, and they don;t have much of a cafe culture. They have coffee culture, but nothing of the Viennese sort. Its very grab n go, and the people in Sydney walk dead on straight..no swerving. So you gotta be alert. Felt good enough (and spontaneous enough) to buy flowers..Gorgeous pink, blooming, australian native variety iforgotwhattheywerecalled..but they were beautiful. As I made my way down George St, from Town Hall to Central station, SO many people asked me if the flowers were for them :P I literally stuck my tongue out and gave a cheeky smile.

Good day, yesterday.

Edit: Jas Luv! i found body lotion that makes me smell like Chocolate!! (havent found the oatmeal one yet..agh) Its a mix of Cocoa, Shea Butter, Almond and Olive oil..mmmmm)
