As a person of Indian origin, I am SO DAMN PROUD to say that A.R. Rahman won the Golden Globe for Best Music Composer. I felt it well inside me the way my heart bursts with pride when Jana Gana Mana comes on.
and you know what? He thanked MIA :D
Now I just wish that proud moment- not only mine, that of 1 billion Indians- hadn't been marred by the fact that the incompetent yanks couldn't get his name right. Kate Beckinsale got it right when she announced it, but David Duchovny who came on to present the next award, apologised mistakenly saying that she' mispronounced it. It's Rah-maan, with an emphasis on the h; not Roo-men GODDAMIT YOU INCOMPETENT YANKS. And to think, there are 2.5 millions in the USA- 3rd in population size after Chinese and Filipino Americans, and home to the second largest Indian disapora in the world. Can't even get a name right.
I have every right to nitpick this cos my entire life the pronunciation of my own name has been mauled. If not my name, get Rahman's name right.
Spoiler Alert.
5 awards :D :D :D Danny Boyle for Best Director too! And Best Screenplay! and SHAHRUKH KHAN came on stage to present the nomination video for the filmmmm!!!AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!! YES! YES!! :D :D
"thank you hollywood for your graciousness towards the Indian film fraternity"
OH I LOVE YOU SRK.
and it won Best Picture! DUDE i haven't even watched the film but i'm so fucking proud right now, i can't even explain it. Happy days, mate..happy days :D For the country whose literature, film, music, art, cuisine, history, religion, architecture, and sports that I love, this is a proud day indeed.
EDIT:
the vid of SRK and Freida Pinto presenting together.. gosh I wish he'd danced :P
The beauty of it is, that he himself used to present Kaun Banega Crorepati, or KBC (india's version of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire..around whcih Slumdog Millionaire is centred)
He was BRILLIANT on it. Best.host.ever.
