don't shoot me i'm only the piano player

WHAZAAAAP elton john in da hizouse!! *gang sign*
ok but before he came on stage (at 8.30..no opening act or wtv), this is what the stage looked like from my cheapo tix spot.

yamaha grand piano *melts*
(i'm in piano relapse stage of my life right now..so every time i hear a contemporary song with a heavy piano sound, i long to be able to tinkle the ivories once more. i never liked playing the classics, meaning obscure german/austrian composers. so shoot me.)

His very first song was Funeral For A Friend..which is a super dramatic instrumental, but the point is, his piano skillz live are incredible, and everytime he launched into a piano solo you could feel the music fill you up with an inexplicable warmness. it could very well have been the excellent sound system, but it was almost evangelical the way his music was so..salvaging.

Well into the concert, when he started on Candle In the Wind (and when i nudged my mum and told her "dont cry ah"), it was just a single beam of light that illuminated him and his piano and it was a very powerful moment.. "would've like to have known you, but i was just a kid; your candle burned out long before your legend ever did" and all i could think of was cobain and lennon and oh :(

when i start earning my own money, i'll get the way more expensive seats..like, floor seats, so i can dance in the aisles and crowd around the stage to get my hand slapped by whoever's performing and crowd surf and catch flying guitar picks/drumsticks. current;y i'm only able to do that at fort canning gigs. indoor stadium gig are all..Civil :/ and the crowd takes FOREVER to warm up, while i'm squirming uncomfortably in my seat hoping that Elton won't walk off stage cos the crowd is so *ded* except for 20 or so angmohs at the front of the stage.

He stood up on his piano a couple of times (pictured) and slammed down the lid at the end of upbeat songs a la rockstar smashing guitars and i half expected him to roar PSHYEAAAAHHH into the mic once in a while haha :D

very snazzy outfit mr john. though, like my mum, i expected you to have multiple costume changes like beyoncé. i'm QUITE sure he had on sequinned red chucks= WIN!! and VERY NICE what you did throwing in gh3y jokes once in a while!

i dont have the full set list, but here's what i can remember:

  • the bitch is back (all i remember of this is the tina turner version really..haha, she made it her own alright)
  • levon
  • tiny dancer ("this one's for all the girls" *squeeee!!*)
  • daniel
  • rocket man ("and i think it's gonna be a long,long time..")
  • goodbye yellow brick road (my mum's fave elton song too, netta!)
  • i guess that's why they call it the blues
  • sacrifice (this is probably one of the songs i best remember from my childhood..cos it's all 90's heh)
  • sorry seems to be the hardest word
  • pinball wizard (i love this one cos its a The Who song :D )
  • bennie and the jets (FANTASTIC SONG,THIS!! the track is so jaunty and FUN and you've gotta do the b-b-b-bennie and the jetsssssss bit properly, just like john does on the song..WOOO)
  • I'm Still Standing (propa propa 80's song)
  • Crocodile Rock (it was brilliant when the entire crowd started singing the lalalalala bit together and EVERYONE was dancing mum and dad moves..it was hilarious!)
  • Saturday Night's Alright (in the car on the way there this was the only song i kept humming/shouting out the chorus randomly- much to the annoyance of my dad who was trying to listen to the news :P )
  • don't let the sun go down on me (george michael lovee!!)
  • your song (everyone sang along. happy sigh)

2 and a half hours of mmm mmm goodness.
yay elton you're a fantastic performer and i loved that you took a bow after almost every song and COME BACK YEAH!
