JT love.when i heard that he had been awarded national team captainship by Capello, i was well chuffed and grinning smugly in front of viv, who promptly brushed off my self-satisfaction with a "He doesn't deserve it". All i could do then was frown in his general direction and call him a prick.
then i couldn't sleep all of last night (hence the 3am post) cos i was damn worried that he hadn't recovered from the champs league tragedy (i mean, who has?) It helped loads that andy penders or PJ, i can't remember who, reminded the audience that it was merely 165 hours or summat since the missed penalty. Thanks ah >_<.
they played at Wembley aka wem-buh-lee to what martin tyler termed "a healthy turnout". Gorgeous, well maintained pitch (unlike Luzhniki) and the pace of play was riveting enough for an exhausted but unable to sleep anjax. I most enjoyed watching Becks play..i mean, he's probably why i started watching footie avidly in the first place, but that's another story (please ah. it is NOT cos he's a well fit bloke). He still has it lah. Pinpoint free-kicks, bent in only like becks can (at this point i''d just like to say that Bentley has no chance of eevn coming close to Becks greatness- puhlease). He literally floats the ball effortlessly in to dangerous, goal-scoring territory and he did JUST that- terry latched onto his free kick in the 37th minute and scored a bullet of header. BACK OF THE NET BABYYYYY!! I wish viv was up with me watching the match lah. "DID YOU SEE THAT HEADER?!?" :D :D i would've screamed at him, with a big grin plastered to my face. (he tivo-ed the match though..and we fast forwarded through it to the good bits later that morning during breakfast. i didn't do any screaming, but he was biting back a smile veiled under a sneer. brudder brudder *sighs and shakes head*.
ok but the point is, JT scored. JT SCORED and i wanted to cry cos this was equivalent to the first few steps to redemption,reconciliation and recovery. With that goal, he proved that he has the capacity to lead his country and do a damn fine job at it. The first thing he did after scoring was to make a beeline for becks, along the way being pummeled with man love and pats on the back- everyone on the team was behind him; it was heartwarming to watch. He got to becks and gave him what i can only call a thank you hug..for a glorious set-up and for giving him a chance to prove his worth. You could feel JT's gratitude exude through the screen. and then the waterworks started.
If JT can have a comeback, i only hope that i can have one too.
