you cant smell the s*** till you're in it

Kenn scored me a pass woohooo.
A band like The Rakes, actually in Singapore, actually performing a showcase. i thought i was at a London Live gig or summat, cos it was just as intimate and exclusive as one and there was a well propa English Act on stage.

"We'd like to slow it down a bit. We're from England *adjusts imaginary tie on collar in an uppity manner* , so we're not metal *sign of the beast concurrently*

LULZ!!

the frontman, and his beaky nose, and his floppy hair, and violent bodily jerks and manic expressions..TOTALLY WORKED IT. and i've just undermined the ace-ness of the rakes by using tyra-speak. fierce.

red-blooded. right on.

the raw energy..it was fkin elektrikk pity the crowd took so long to warm up. Pre and i were quite chuffed that people started singing along, at least during the chorus bits. I think i screamed a manic fangirl scream when We Danced Together came on..i love that song! and from their older album, frickin Strasbourg,22 Grand Job, We Are All Animals aaaand Retreat..YEAH BABY!

they did 2 new songs, one of which is the title of this post and the other, i can't remember. can't find the damn setlist lah. at its not like i knew all the songs. but that's not the point.
the point is, i enjoyed myself more than i thought i actually would (esp after they were 1 and 3/4 hours late...but hey, they played the frickin Klaxons on the soundsystem while we waited. *fangirl and fanboyyy* you know what i'm talkin about :D )and lots of nu-rave, indie/indie rock, electro and shizzle.

fkin curfew. had to leave early but i'm SURE they performed The World Was A Mess But His Hair Was Perfect, aka the song they wrote for the Dior Homme runway show in 06, for the encore. and Work Work Work (pub, club, sleep).

i think i like them so much cos they channel Art Rock..not meant to please the masses and focusing on completely, ridiculously complex and catchy riffs; lyrics that read like un-rhyming floetry.. the conversational style of blank verse and the innate intricacy of the musical stylings that accompany them.

Well this is something new but it turns out it was borrowed too
Why does every let down have to be so thin?
Rain explodes at the moment that the cab door closed
I feel the weight upon your kiss ambiguous
