i've got love for you if you were born in the 80's

attack of the 80's phase!

you know, next week on American Idol it might very well be 80's week and i hope they don't completely maul songs of the genre as they've done these past weeks and for Jalaluddin Akbar's sake i hope they choose good songs. for once. (is it just me or is it appalling that only ONE beatles-related song has been performed thus far). Do a prince or paula abdul song for crying out loud. you know what, they should just show X Factor instead of American Idol..these yanks cant sing lah.

speaking of the 80's and the English, look at the wealth of talent that came out from there in that era of aural pleasure..NEW WAVE FTW!

the Human League. phil oakey looked so well put together, 80's chic, with his makeup and floppy hair..androgyny rules. and their videos! 'Human' especially, such a classy video with the blue hues and damn cool layering of their faces effect..groundbreaking stuff. and just what a song! Pre, i rmb the time we broke out in song to Don't You Want Me Baby/ Together in Electric Dreams!

monochrome oh yeahhh

Kajagoogoo. Please, what a cool name. and what cool hair (but not as nice as Duran Duran's). equally new wave woohoo. I love "Too Shy,shy..hush hush, eye to eye"..what a neat track! the bassline is tight yo.

but everyone else other than Limahl looks like a dork haha

Wham! no really, that's how its spelt with the ! and all. Panic copied them..ok well, not anymore, since they removed the ! from PATD. ok so back to Wham!; more pop than new wave and i definitely dig George Michael more than Andrew..+1980 points for the pure catchiness of their tunes ("Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" anyone?) i have this sick SICK mashup of Ray of Sunlight by Wham! and Zdarlight by Digitalism done by The Avalanches..kennef, i need to send this to you, remind me.

Depeche Mode. their first and last uplifting/upbeat track was "Just Can't Get Enough"..then after that it got all..dark. HAHA. thank goodness they kept the wicked electronica vibe though. synthpop do they call it?

well this was probably taken outside the UN Headquarters? i dunno..but tell me, do they not look a teensy bit like Klaxons? its probably the other way round, but yeah, do you see it? the hair and the upturned collars and dazed/intense looks. Viva La New Wave Revival!

its amazing how relevant they still are and how their music has endured..and how Dave Gahan got exponentially hotter from his younger days. and how his solo music is as equally gnarly as when he's frontman of DM

Bowie. oh i so love this shot of him! for once, he doesn't look so..severe and like a twat, frankly. (though i do love when he does the lightning bolt across the eye/upper face thing) his music catalogue from the 80's is so spectacular i dont even want to start lest i'm shoddy.

Culture Club. boy george vs anjax.

ok i'm knackered.
