finally got my sticky fingers all over In Rainbows

i've only got through 4 songs but i'm pumped already. i think what did it for me was yeow kai chai's review (i STILL dont know if i'm spelling his name right, but oh well) i recognised the lyric off the track 15 Step (cos i think either jheeva/khabil/karthik had it as their subnick)

"First you reel me out and you cut the string"....*dies*

just imagine if your lover said that to you; would it not just make you feel so rotten about yourself?

what i love though is that so many tracks have strings/ an orchestral backing which is like Urban Hymns all over again. Oh..richard ashroft's bleeding heart! Elton John's actually :P now HIS heart bleeds out over the airwaves. but enough about elton. wouldja look at that: Urban Hymns came out the same year as (Radiohead's) OK Computer....interestinggg *eyebrow raise*
Equally brilliant, both albums. (i'm gonna get mobbed for saying that :/ )
anyways, just to deviate from Radiohead's smashing new offering, Senor Ashcroft on Jools Holland: "Music Is Power"..an uplifting track with a glorious sampling of Curtis Mayfield's soul vibezz

and as i have repeated to death my favouritest song in the world at the first-rate, most excellent musical gathering that was Live 8:

back to radiohead: they may not be perfect but parts of them are pretty awesome!
Just the highlights..
Videotape: such a distressing song or as NME puts it, "an understated, tender number"
Faust ARP: there's something so arabesque and ben hur about the sadness of the sweeping strings. The jerkiness, the staccato of the vocals and acoustic guitar complements the ...WAIT. i think i like it so much cos the guitar bits sound so much like a Macca track, or a Beatles one at least..YES!! its like, convoluted Blackbird..or While My Guitar Gently Weeps! YESS!! there we go! :D (i must text karthik, excuse me)
Reckoner: Again the beatles-esque intro guitar hook and all that percussion! i love! and this time the strings sounded more like something The Streets would come up with. not even that, the fade out sounded like the strings on the Spice Girls Viva Forever i swearr!
Nude: this time, sigur ros strings, lovely understated bassline and oh, just a beautiful song *clasps hands, julie andrews style and looks up* (siv i think you'll like this one)
Weird Fishes: Tuan's fave haha, the lyrics are questionable but i love the drum stylings on this one..very jazzy. and Kings Of Convenience soft, light guitar picking..lovely!
Bodysnatchers: the intro is rather RATM if anything cos the guitars sound so...militant. NME labelled it "gnarly blues guitar" lol! rockkk. my itunes album added the album back to front so i got a bit worried that there was nothing raaawk on the album, but yeah this track saved it haha
15 step: such a jaunty track with da best lyrics (and i'm not really a lyrics person at all) and a killa bass that pops up more than halfway through the song. catchy tune, this!
i make no apologies for constant reference to other bands.
back to the yeow kai chai dude, his section had a d/l link to Dave Gahan's single off his latest solo album (AAAARGH HE BEAT ME TO IT *sulk*) Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode. I like Gahan, cos he IS depeche mode. i like Ashcroft, cos he IS The Verve. I love Mourinho, cos he IS chelsea. same for Jay Kay and Jamiroquai, Chris Martin and Coldplay, Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters (well actually i like Taylor Hawkins too :P )

anyways the track is all dark and mysterious electro-rock, typical DM. what's not to love?

i wanttt
