come with me, come with me, we'll travel to infinity

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy!! :D x948530
klaxons won the Mercury Prize for this year for Myths Of the Near Future
*does a little jig*

i'm super chuffed that they wonnnnnnn... can you tellll!!!???

For past Mercury Prize related posts, click here

Look at em, i've never seen nu rave artists so smiley and glowing (haha sallow-looking people)
they totally deserved it..the album was PHENOMENAL! almost as good as Supermassive Black Hole..for me, personally.

They have everything for l337 distortion, as in on Its Not Over Yet. to incredibly sexy bass riffs as on Forgotten Works. They create atmosphere so effortlessly, as on Two Receivers ..it engulfs you and i imagine that's what it must feel like when you're high haha. Their music is almost canonical..as if acheived from a higher power. And then you have something as bangin as Atlantis to Interzone..how the intro screams DJ! and how the pace suddenly quickens with the beach boys-esque riff of a volta..after that short interlude it settles back to sirens. LOVE IT. Feverish ecstacy through and through..even on electro punk Totem on the Timeline.

i wouldn't label their music as Pure..but it sure is raw. All that energy- in every last track! and how can you refuse synth beats! *wink*

They're a hoot!
I mean just listen to The Bouncer: "Your name's not Dan, you're not coming in. Not tonight, you're not on the list!" in a charming southern London accent..first in a matter-of-fact tone which progressively builds up to a threatening shout which ends with "Listen mate! i told you once, i told you twice, you're not on the list, ALRIGH' ?? ---that's all there is on the entire song! all 2 mins and 15 seconds of it

this is them at Glastonbury this year. gooooooooldddd. ah yes, that brings me to Golden Skans, hands down my favouritest song of theirs. the woo-y-who.. ah chant (if that's what i should call it) is as infectious as it gets. plus the video is pukka..first class, quality stuff.
one more YAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY for good measure :)

the other nominees this year were first rate too. Pity the Monkeys didn't win it the second time, though Favourite Worst Nightmare is RAD in its own right. Bat for Lashes was nominated too, Netta! their performance at Glasto is now up on youtube btw :) Dizzee Rascal's Math and English was shortlisted but he won in 03 already, for the album which had the iconic track Fix Up Look Sharp..wikkid track. Oh look New Young Pony Club was on the list too..but nah, they're nothing fantastic. Jamie T on the other hand, is a breakthrough artist who i have dibs on to make it back to the list in the near future :) Yuck, The View made it too. Pity that Miss Winehouse didnt win...Mercury Prizes have no consolation prizes unfortunately. Bit of a vested interest in her winning cos Mark Ronson was the one who produced her record. Nothing groundbreaking, but she made soul accessible again.

Even the Klaxons said after their win (and i'm paraphrasing here),that Amy's record was retro whereas theirs was "Forward looking". true dat.

Hey i was just thinking you'll be supah dupah psyched bout their win. But who's the 4th guy? And i finally recognise Jools Holland and Jo Whiley :D

And i havent seen much pics but Bat For Lashes must really like her Pocahontas feathers! Her vid for What Is A Girl To Do is really quite interesting.

"At club 18-30 I met Julius Caesar,
Lady Diana and Mother Theresa."
I like this one quite alot :)
