child of the 80's

i'm a child of the (very late) 80's and i'm damn proud of it. i used to wish i was born in the 60's so i could be part of flower power and beatlemania. then i discovered Saturday Night Fever and longed to master the Electric Slide and choreograph a routine to Boogie Wonderland. But i've since learnt to embrace the gloriously campy era that is the EIGHTIES, shoulder pads and everything! since i finally have the time, a tribute to one of the greatest british exports of synth-based (lol) pop Duran Duran.

i guess the lurve got rekindled when my dad started taking the mickey out of the chorus of The Reflex (aka 80's dance classic) in which you hear "re-flex-flex-flex" at the beginning. tacky 80's shiz lah. well actually it all started cos some kid in a tv movie was going ape shit over Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Relax, don't do it, when you wanna go to it" (sing along ya'll!) afterwhich we(except for vivek, boo spoiler) reminesced. the reminescing included "Domo arigato mr roboto" accompanied by the robot dance *hides* I didn't know the song was by Styx! i always thought it was a Queen song..odd...

ok so the thing is, he used to do that last time too! respekt Raguperson (aka appa), from whom i hope to inherit Ray Ban wayfarers during Passover (HAHA! jineh one more reason why i love you) so i got all :( imissmymusicalroots and went back to my beloved class 95. and now i shall get on with DD post.

hel-loooo they were gorgeous male specimens back in the day, and might i say, looking gooooood even now *wink*

*smouldering look*

the hair! how can you not love the hair, in all its poofy hairsprayed glory?! you can hide crack in there HEHE. hair bands were teh s3x no matter what country they came from. Bon Jovi during their Slippery When Wet days, COME ON! my hair had volume like that when it was still curly :P

i adore their style..
Specimen A: white shoes and 3/4 sleeved jackets

shiny happy people. (honestly R.E.M, what were you thinking writing this song eh? but i loved that it was versatile enough for Sesame Street :P )

i LOVE this shot. i have a thing for monochromatic coordinate oufits (read: Muse) Simon (the lead singer)in a trench is so fly, i can't take it anymore. and the hair and highlights. what a bunch of 80's male models.

white shoes go with EVERYTHING! my weinbrenner sneakers are my new best friends from now on *grin*

How about some videos eh? In chronological order-

Hungry Like The Wolf:

filmed in India lol. one of their earliest hits and with good reason. you want catchy? meet the people who invented catchy. (no lah i exaggerate) pure POP, how about that?

A View To A Kill:

this was the theme to a James Bond flick of the same name with Roger Moore as 007. james bond them you know lah...damn dramatik and over the top :P

the effects were cutting edge...during THAT time hee. must watch, just to see how technology has progressed. but the boys still look shmexy lah. french chic = foo yo!!!

Ordinary World:

one of their offering from the early 90's and my undisputed favourite of theirs. the video, with its wedding theme, is so memorable (damn Guns N Roses "November Rain" ah! you see! wedding videos are just unforgettable). the haute couture wedding dress and Simon singing in and out of the shadows..plus the sad sad classical guitar rift

"left me in the vacuum of my heart" *heartpain* the rest of the lyrics here

and then the band went on hiatus, as bands customarily do and came back still as hot as they were last time. i guess if you're good looking you just stay that way forever, face structure wise i mean

Their single, Sunrise has been the only massivel successful one in quite a while but hey at least they're still in demand! Live 8,Live Earth, Concert for Diana to name a few...

i love performance shots.
they could pass off as Muse, no?

They're next album is due in October though! NOT LONG!!! and wtf, collabo with Justin and Timbaland?!
oh no. i don't like the sound of that at all
